Know the characteristics of pregnancy outside the womb early

Pregnancy outside the womb or in medical terms known as ectopic pregnancy, is a condition that can have serious consequences. To be alert, it is important to recognize the characteristics of pregnancy outside the uterus so that it can be treated immediately and reduce the risk of complications that may occur.

Pregnancy outside the uterus is a pregnancy that occurs when a fertilized egg is not attached to or attached to the uterus normally, but instead attaches to a place other than the uterus, such as the fallopian tubes, abdominal cavity, and ovary or cervix (cervix)

In this condition, the fertilized egg cannot grow normally and usually causes embryonic (fetal) death. This death is caused by the fact that the organs in the abdomen other than the uterus are not designed as a place for embryo growth. Pregnancy outside the uterus can be a dangerous condition if a tear occurs where the embryo grows. This tear can cause severe and fatal bleeding if not treated immediately.

One of the most common causes of pregnancy outside the uterus is damage to the fallopian tubes, for example, due to inflammation that forms scar tissue. This damage will prevent the fertilized egg from entering the uterus, so that it attaches to the walls of the fallopian tubes or other organs. In addition, unbalanced hormone levels and abnormal development in fertilized eggs sometimes also play a role in the emergence of this condition.

Characteristics of pregnancy outside the content

At first, ectopic pregnancies tend not to have typical symptoms, with pregnancy signs similar to normal pregnancies. After older gestation, other symptoms that indicate an ectopic pregnancy will appear, including:

  • Pain in the lower abdomen that usually occurs on one side.
  • Mild bleeding from the vagina.
  • Pain or pressure in the rectum during bowel movements.
  • Discomfort when urinating.

Sometimes, the characteristics of pregnancy outside the uterus are not specific and do not cause serious complaints if there is no bleeding due to tears in the place where the embryo joins. The danger signs that must be taken into account in an ectopic pregnancy are pelvic pain or severe abdominal pain accompanied by a lot of bleeding from the vagina, weakness, dizzy eyes, pale and cold hands and feet, rapid heartbeat and fainting.

Pregnancy outside the uterus that causes bleeding is an emergency medical condition that requires immediate treatment. Therefore, you are advised to go to the hospital immediately if you experience these symptoms.

Pregnancy management is out of content

Women who are suspected of having a pregnancy outside the uterus should be taken to the hospital immediately for examination and treatment as soon as possible. This is because the fertilized egg cannot grow normally if it is not in the womb and will damage the tissue structure that is attached if left to crawl. Therefore, ectopic tissue must be removed immediately to avoid the risk of other more dangerous complications.

  • Using drug therapyEctopic pregnancies are detected early and those that do not cause tears and bleeding at the embryo insertion site can usually be treated with injections of methotrexate. This drug serves to stop growth while destroying the cells that have been formed. After being injected, the doctor will monitor the levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). If the HCG level in the blood is still high, you will be given an injection of methotrexate again. Usually, these drugs start working effectively when you feel symptoms that resemble spontaneous abortions, such as cramps, bleeding, and tissue that leaves the birth canal.
  • He underwent surgeryIn addition to handling the above, pregnancy outside the uterus can also be treated with surgery. Embryos that attach to the fallopian tubes or other locations will be removed and repaired if possible. Damaged fallopian tubes and bleeding from pregnancy outside the uterus are the main indications for surgical removal of the fallopian tube. Surgical procedures can be done by conventional methods (laparotomy) or by laparoscopic surgery.
Ectopic pregnancy cannot be completely prevented. But you can avoid this condition if you know the characteristics of a pregnancy outside the uterus as soon as possible, then have a pregnancy consultation and a series of tests, such as a physical examination, blood tests and pregnancy ultrasound as initial screening. This should be done especially for women who have had an ectopic pregnancy before.
