Colds are one of the health problems that are often found in babies. However, this condition can sometimes be dangerous. Many symptoms of colds in infants should be monitored because they can indicate serious illness.

Babies do not have the strength of the body as strong as an adult, so they can be easily attacked by diseases, including colds. Even at the age of 0-12 months, babies can catch cold up to 7 times.

Although a cold in the baby can heal on its own, this does not mean that this condition can be underestimated. You need to pay attention to certain symptoms, because this might be a sign that your child has a more serious illness.

Symptoms of colds in infants must be monitored

Although this often occurs in infants and children, cold complaints should be treated by a doctor immediately if they occur in children under 3 months of age.

While for babies and older children, flu symptoms should be immediately examined by a doctor if accompanied by a fever of more than two days.

In addition, the mother must also be alert and seek immediate medical attention if the child's cold is accompanied by other symptoms, such as:

  • Fever with body temperature 39 degrees Celsius or higher.
  • Short breathing or strange sound (wheezing).
  • Cough lasts more than 2 days, especially if sputum or accompanied by splashes of blood.
  • Seizures.
  • Urinate or defecate less frequently than usual.
  • Vomiting frequently.
  • His skin was pale or his lips and nails were bluish.
  • I don't want to suck or eat.
  • Sneezing, runny nose and red eyes.
  • It's harder than usual and always looks tired.
  • Earaches These symptoms can be recognized by babies who often pull their ears, rub their ears, or cry when breastfeeding.

Colds in babies with some of the above symptoms may be a sign of a more serious condition, such as pneumonia. Therefore, you should immediately bring your child to the doctor if you feel a cold followed by these symptoms.

Treatment of colds in infants
Seeing the cold of a baby certainly makes you anxious as a parent. However, you can make efforts to alleviate your child's complaints, namely:

  • Make sure he gets enough rest.
  • Position your head higher so you can breathe better.
  • Give milk or formula regularly to prevent dehydration. Breast milk can also strengthen the baby's immune system in the fight against cold infections.
  • Drain mucus or snot with a baby vacuum cleaner.
  • Place your child in a room without air conditioning. If necessary, use an air moisturizer to help clear nasal congestion while reducing coughing.
  • Keep your child away from cigarette smoke or dust.

In addition to the various methods described above, mothers can also relieve colds in infants using sterile saline nasal drops. But if you are hesitant to use it, it is best to take your child to the doctor for treatment.

To prevent a child from catching a cold, remember to complete the immunization schedule and keep it away from people with the flu.

When your child catches a cold, avoid giving him colds or relieving cough that is sold freely. If you want to use drugs to relieve cold symptoms, it is best to consult a pediatrician directly. Especially if your child has flu symptoms that need to be monitored above.
